The zarzuela Policías y ladrones (policemen and thieves) is a commission from the Teatro de la Zarzuela to the composer Tomas Marco. This opera dramatizes political corruption and demonstrates it as a farce without the gravity of devastating criticism. It features a light-hearted plot that incorporates the tension of “suspense” into a display of plausible stereotypes and absurdities.
Premiere on November 18, 2022 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
